Airsoft Vs Paintball - Which is Better?

There are pros and cons to both airsoft and paintball. I will list them out and let you decide which is better.

Let's start with airsoft:

Pros

Cheaper to play

Cleaner

Less painful

More play options

Cons

Judged on the honesty system

BBs are not all biodegradable

Not as popular

Now the pros and cons of paintball.

Pros

The paint shows were the person was hit

More popular

Many accessories and upgrades available

More realistic

Cons

Expensive

Painful

Messy

Airsoft is generally cheaper to play than paintball because the ammo is much cheaper than paintballs. Quality paintball guns can cost hundreds more than airsoft guns, but they are about the same price for low to mid level guns. There is more safety gear required for paintball.

Paintball is a messy game. Paint ends up everywhere. It should wash out of clothing and wash away when it rains, but depending on the surface it may not wash out. The only mess airsoft makes is the ammo its self. There are biodegradable BBs that will dissolve in about 4 months, but many people choose the less expensive plastic BBs.

Paintball is much more popular than airsoft. There are teams virtually everywhere and many tournaments all over the country. Airsoft has teams and tournaments as well, but it is not as big as paintball. One of the reasons for that is that when you get hit with a paintball, everyone knows because they can see it. When you get hit with an airsoft BB, you are probably the only person that knows because there is no mark. The person firing may not even know with certainty that they hit you. Because of this, there is more cheating involved with airsoft than with paintball.

Both sides have many different scenarios like capture the flag, war reenactments, attacking a village, etc. Those who have played both airsoft and paintball prefer scenario paintball over scenario airsoft because of the proof of hit and many players like the pain from a paintball gun more than airsoft. That sounds masochistic, but it makes the game more life like. If you know it is going to hurt and you will probably have a welt, you will most likely play better and be more careful. With airsoft it can still hurt, but not as bad as a paintball.

As far as which is better, it all depends on what experience you want to have. If you want to keep it clean and not spend a lot of money, then airsoft is better. If you want the play to be more real and you have the money to spend, then paintball might be what you are looking for. Either way, they are both a whole lot of fun and if you have not tried either of them yet I highly recommend you do. The best way to decide which is better is to do them both.

The More Expensive Airsoft Sniper Rifles Are Not Necessarily Better!

If you're an active gamer, you're probably looking forward to the day you can implement your best stealth moves with an Airsoft sniper rifle. But you don't have a lot of money to spend either, so you're looking for something cheap. Now, there's an old saying that says, "You get what you pay for" and it implies that if you spend more money on something, you'll get a better quality product. But with Airsoft sniper rifles, that is not necessarily the case at all. In fact, some of their cheaper models actually outperform other more expensive sniper rifle models! But how do you know which of the cheaper versions delivers the good results? Well, keep reading and take some notes.

Too Cheap is Probably Too Cheap

There is such a thing as too cheap. If you find a sniper rifle for $10, you can pretty much guarantee it's not going to last very long. After all, you do want a sniper rifle that is made of good quality materials. On the other hand, for $30 to $50 or so, you can find some relatively nice sniper rifles through wholesale outlets or online at venues like Craigslist or eBay. Use caution, though, and make sure you know what you're getting so you don't get scammed.

Cheap, But Not SO Cheap

If you're looking for good quality Airsoft sniper rifles, an investment of $40 to $75 would be considered mid-range cheap. As a rule, you can get some pretty good deals in this price range. Many of the models with spring-powered action are every bit as good-or better-for durability, accuracy, and range as more expensive models like the AEGs. The one downside is that the less expensive Airsoft sniper rifles tend to be somewhat heavier and bulkier than the AEG sniper rifles. On the other hand, you can get some gas-powered model Airsoft sniper rifles in this same price range that would be pretty comparable to the AEGs all around.

Do Your Homework

Before you buy, it's a good idea to do a little research. The Airsoft forums online are a great resource to find out information from other gamers like you what works well and what doesn't-and also where to get some of the best bargains. You can learn a lot just by hanging out online and reading up. Then, based on the information you learn, you can look online to find a good deal on a cheap Airsoft sniper rifle that still gets great results. As always, use caution when purchasing anything online and don't give out your credit card information to just anyone. You may want to consider calling the number on the website to be sure you have a reputable business before you order from a website. You can also find some good deals on eBay.

If you're looking for a high quality brand, Airsoft sniper rifles are a good investment. For a moderately cheap amount of money, you can get a good deal on some fine weaponry and have a lot of fun. Just be sure you know what you're looking for when you're shopping.

Be a Better Airsoft Player

In past posts I have discussed strategies for improving your team's effectiveness as a whole. Since we have all heard the old adage that a team is only as strong as its weakest player, I thought it would be valuable to address ways in which you can improve as an independent player. Strong players do, after all, enhance the team.

Know your weapon and gear. Do some basic training, including some ground work, such as running and crawling. Get familiar with the weight and maneuvering limitations of your gear. Learn what works well with your equipment dimensions.

Improve Your Accuracy. Some people think the quickest way to become a better player is to upgrade your weapon. Upgrades are awesome, don't get me wrong, but they are not a quick fix for a bad shot. The truth is if you want to improve your form and accuracy, you have to practice. The good news is... practicing is really fun. Here are a few things to keep in mind when working on your accuracy:

Always aim for a small, specific area on the target - not the target as a whole. Keep your eye on that small area rather than glancing around.
Grip high on the gun so that your middle finger is high on the trigger guard. A higher grip will give you more control regardless of the weapon. It will improve your aim and ease recoil.
Use your fingerprint area to slowly squeeze down on the trigger. This will limit jerking and allow for more control over the gun. Try to make this a fluid movement; this is especially important if you are using a sniper rifle or pistol.
The farther away you are, the higher you will have to aim to hit your target. Practice different ranges and learn what works best for you and your weapon(s).
Be sure to practice shooting while moving around.
Different guns will have a different feel, be they gas, spring or electric airsoft guns. The more you use it, the more instinctual your weapon will be to you.

Know the Terminology. Be sure to research the different war terms that you may encounter on the field. If you are told an enemy fighter is at your 6 o'clock, it's better to instinctively know what that means than to mentally calculate it on the field. There are a number of airsoft glossaries out there worth reviewing. You don't need to know every term, but a solid understanding will help you.

Know the strategies. Most wargames are broken up into teams that are either offense-oriented or defense-oriented. Defense-oriented teams tend to be grounded in a specific area, while offense-oriented teams are on active attack, trying to gain ground. A good strategy if you are on the defense is to find a position that provides both cover and access to enemy targets. The more hidden you are, the better. If the enemy cannot figure out where the shots are coming from, you have the chance to do more damage. If you are on the offense, your main two objectives are determining where harmful fire is coming from, and removing the origin of that fire, thus allowing you to gain ground. It is surprisingly difficult to find a tactically hidden defensive player. Offensive players should try to engage the enemy with minimal movement or noise. Surprise is really the best weapon on the field.

Be fit. You will need to be able to run, crawl, and dive... all with heavy gear. The more physically fit you are, the better you will be on the field.

Be safe and have fun. Wear the right protective gear, use good judgment, and the more you play, the better you will be.

Top 10 Reasons Airsoft Is Better Than Paintball

Any airsoft fanatic knows that the truly best military simulation sport out there is airsoft; however, some paintballers and non-players remain unaware of the benefits and advantages airsoft has over paintball. Here are the top 10 ways in which airsoft skirmishes trump paintball games:

1. Airsoft game play is more realistic than paintball play.

Airsoft guns look like real guns, so much so that legally airsoft manufacturers must include a 6mm orange tip at the end of the barrel to identify it as an airsoft gun and not a firearm. Airsoft guns resemble real firearms in many aspects: their barrels, machinery, magazines and accessories more closely mirror firearms than paintball guns.

2. Shooting airsoft ammo allows for better accuracy than shooting with paintball ammo.

Airsoft bbs are smaller than paintball pellets, so they experience less wind resistance and therefore, are more accurate. Airsoft bbs are less visible to the opponent because of their smaller size, which adds to their accuracy. Also, when playing paintball, players may see the larger paintball pellet flying toward them and can take cover accordingly, which decreases your hit percentage.

3. Airsoft skirmishes are more tactical than paintball games.

With the realism of the airsoft guns, tactics play a large part in their battles. Players really feel as though they are on the battle field and must act strategically and intelligently to win a skirmish. With the ability to release large rounds of airsoft ammo quickly, bum rushing opponents and sloppy strategy will lead to a quick defeat; therefore, designating a chain of command (see reason #7) is vital. The highly tactical aspect of airsoft battle helps transcend the sport into a milsim reality.

4. Airsoft guns have greater usability than paintball guns.

Airsoft guns vary in weight, ranging from as light as 2 pounds to heavier than 6 pounds. The ammo can be sized at.12 grams or as hefty as.28 grams; however,.20 gram airsoft bbs are the most common size. On the other hand, the average paintball gun on the light end weighs about 5 pounds and can reach more than 15 pounds for nicer, heavier-duty models. Maneuvering a paintball gun becomes clumsier and less agile than handling a lighter airsoft gun. Due to the lighter gun and airsoft bb weight, airsoft guns are easier to carry around, which increases their usability.

5. Buying a quality airsoft gun is cheaper than getting a paintball gun.

A quality electric starter airsoft gun costs around $22.95 and airsoft ammo is extremely cheap, too - $11.95 for a round of 4000 airsoft bbs. Paintball guns and ammo cost significantly more for comparable quality, around $79.95 for a beginner paintball gun. Paintball pellets also carry a bigger price tag at $59.98 for 4000 rounds of paintball ammunition.

6. Rounding up a pickup game with airsoft guns is easier and less messy than assembling a paintball gathering.

This airsoft skirmish advantage is pretty uncontested in the paintball verse airsoft world - it is much easier to get together an airsoft game than a paintball game. First, when playing airsoft, the location has fewer restrictions than when playing paintball. Playing airsoft is legal on private property, so you and a friend could easily have a one-on-one battle in someone's big backyard or land. Second, airsoft play is much cheaper so it can be easier to rally people to play. Paintball play- because of the paint splatter - is much more restricted.

7. In these games, having defined roles is important and commonly used.

Airsoft skirmishes typically divide into two teams, with detailed and strategized roles for each player on the team. The main roles for airsoft battle include a team leader, tactical officer, rifleman, recon, sniper and heavy infantry; however, there are additional roles that can be designated to aid in the order on the field.

Paintball play sometimes involves a chain of command, but the structure is much more flexible and open to interpretation than in airsoft. Paintball teams normally just separate into three classes: frontmen, mid-players and back players.

Airsoft is a more realistic milsim game which explains why tactics, strategy and a defined hierarchical chain of command are used more frequently than in paintball games.

8. There are more options to upgrade your gun in airsoft.

As discussed in reason #1, quality airsoft guns are cheaper than paintball guns; therefore, it is easier (and less expensive) to update and upgrade your airsoft gun than a paintball gun. Beyond the lower cost of tricking out your airsoft gun, more options for upgrades exist. External upgrades like fore grips, scopes, sights and switches are available at affordable prices as well as internal upgrades to boost performance like nozzles, fuses and gearboxes.

The best part about the low prices for airsoft parts and accessories is that you can get into the sport as a beginner without having to front a lot of money. Then, when you become more advanced, upgrading is easy and affordable.

9. Airsoft bbs shoot faster than paintball pellets.

Airsoft bbs fly at speeds of 150 to 600 feet per second (fps), with an average speed of over 300 fps, whereas paintball pellets only achieve speeds of 200 to 300 fps on average.

10. The military practices with airsoft guns and ammo for training.

Military personnel and police officers use airsoft guns during training before transitioning to real artillery. Just this month, officers in Dane County, Wisconsin used airsoft guns and rifles for their basic training at a closed-down public school.

We think these are the top 10 reasons why our sport is better than paintball, but we're sure you airsoft aficionados know many more!

Is Airsoft Better Than Paintball?

This question is bound to stir debate and controversy amongst the most ardent of airsoft or paintball fans.

Both airsoft and paintball are both hobbies based on replica firearms and wargames. Is this unhealthy? That depends moreso on the person themselves rather than the hobby. An interest in pursuing a hobby that involves weaponry only becomes unhealthy if taken to extremes - which is true of most things in life. Paintball and airsoft are not morbid hobbies and only run the risk of being dangerous when participated in by dangerous people.

Paintball itself is a more mobile sport. It requires a certain level of physical fitness, mobility and skill - if you paintball then you gotta be able to move fast. The weapons themselves are functional and are only designed to serve the purpose of the sport as opposed to looking good. Paintball rifles are designed to take a real beating when it comes to their use. Paintball fans fall into the 'extreme sport' category and enjoy the pure adrenaline of each paintball match and are driven by the desire to win.

Airsoft is a somewhat different sport. The guns used in airsoft are both conversation pieces and are also functional sports 'weapons'. Airsoft rifles and pistols are capable of firing both small plastic pellets and paint filled pellets so are useful both in the sport itself and also for backyard target practice.

The major difference is the power of the guns themselves. Paintball guns are driven by high powered gas cylinders whereas airsoft guns fire projectiles either through springs, electronic firing mechanisms or with compressed gas. The issue is that most airsoft guns lack the range and accuracy of the larger paintball guns simply because they were never designed with long range fire in mind.

Conversely airsoft guns are available in a huge range of styles and models. Everything from a Glock handgun to a sniper rifle to a CAR15 assault rifle. Airsoft guns are equally at home hanging in your livingroom or at use on the airsoft playing field. You can even go as far as buying an airsoft minigun. Many airsoft fans simply collect the guns and never get involved in airsoft wargames at all. This is the much the same as many sword collectors - they display the weapons at home but don't go running around waving them at people.

The truth is that neither airsoft nor paintball is superior. They're both a case of personal preference. If you're the extreme sports type then paintball will suit you more. If you're more of a collector then airsoft will be more you thing.

Regardless of whether you're a paintball fan or an airsoft fan it's essential to take proper safety precautions when using these guns. Proper eye protection in the form of safety goggles should always be worn and suitable protective clothing to cover your neck and upper torso should also be worn. Even though some people see these as guns as toys they are capable of causing injury either through accident or even deliberate malice.

Why Airsoft is Better Than Paintball

I've had played both sport and I have to say that Airsoft is WAY better than paintball. My experience with Airsoft is that it's more of an intense style of game play and you constantly have to think on your feet. Airsoft is more of a tactical strategy style of game play and paintball is more sporadic and more run & shoot. In this article I'll give you a few backing begin I believe Airsoft is a better sport than paintball and why everyone should give it a try. I think it's a great sport that everyone will love once they had played at least one game.

First off, the variety of Airsoft guns you can choose from is endless. Airsoft is a sport that mimic the real world's military weaponry, any gun that is made in the real world, in Airsoft there is an exact replica. You can have anything from an Airsoft revolver, shotgun to an Airsoft sniper rifle, the possibility is endless. The freedom to having the option to choose so many different Airsoft gun to play is great in my eyes! When i play Airsoft I typically have a hand gun and a rifle but in paintball I'm stuck to one paintball gun and to me that limits my ability to perform to my best ability!

Another reason why I believe Airsoft is better than paintball is that you really need to play as a team and plan out every move that each player is going to make. As I mention earlier, Airsoft is a game about strategy and if you fail to plan your objective you will most likely lose the game. You have a lot of position that makes up your team, you guy your support guys, they are like your first line of defense or attack. Then you will have some recon guys that can either be a sniper and a lookout or a group of support guys who also does recon. Figuring out your enemies position is key to developing a perfect strategy to win a Airsoft game.

The last but not least concept of an Airsoft game is the "honor system" that is incorporated into the game. in Airsoft when you are hit you are suppose to call out any hit that you felt. It differs from the game of paintball because in paintball there is a paint mark that is left whenever you are hit. Airsoft shows that it takes better countability when you play and that every game should be fair. There are times that a player don't call a hit or kill but that is why there's are referee that delegate at shot that has been made. Some shot are too far away that the opponent can't feel the BB hitting them.

As you can see, Airsoft is a more involve type of game and that everyone his playing by the rules. The freedom to choose any weapon you desire is by far a huge advantage over the paintball community. The skill level it takes to play Airsoft is beyond paintball and the honor system of Airsoft is also what makes the game such a great sport! I hope you learn a few things from this article and see why I favor more on the game of Airsoft over paintball any day!

Which Is a Better Airsoft Gun - Spring Or Electric?

The plain and simple answer to the spring or electric airsoft dilemma is: It Depends. It depends on many factors which you should consider when you are trying to select between the two main types of airsoft guns.

So which one is better airsoft gun?

First you have to decide for yourself what kind of gameplay do you like. Do you like to be in the center of the action, shooting hundreds of BBs all around the battle field? Or you like to be far far away at a safe place taking out your opponents one by one and see their surprised faces once they get hit from nowhere!

The automatic guns are most of the times electric. Thus if you like to be in the heart of the action you have to choose electric airsoft gun. It will deliver big shooting speed so you can eliminate many of your close-by opponents in no time. Some of the better airsoft gun products with battery can also shoot at long range distances and be somewhere accurate.

The downside of electric airsoft guns are a few but very important. They tend to empty their ammo clips very fast. This can leave you at that unpleasant spot when you are out of BBs and your opponents are all over you. Their long distance accuracy is not very good. AEGs are mainly made for close combat. One of the worst accidents you might experience is if you forget to charge your battery or it just runs out. Then your electric gun is only usable for a direct hit of your enemies, which in airsoft terms is way out of the allowed techniques. Electric airsoft guns also tend to get stuck more than the sniper airsoft rifles.

If you are a fan of long range accurate shots like me, then you have to choose spring powered airsoft weapon. There is no better amusement than seeing an enemy's surprised face when he gets "killed" while hiding or just regrouping. In every airsoft team there should be at least one sniper hitman to clear the way for a rush attack.

Of course this type of airsoft equipment have their cons. The main one is the slow rate of reloading. You will have to reload for each and every shot. This means manually cocking the spring. This takes time and is not useful for close combats at all. This is one of the main reasons I only recommend spring powered airsoft guns for the sniper rifles. As a sniper you can your backup pistol ready for the face to face encounters.

Whenever you decide between spring or electric airsoft gun make sure it is the better airsoft gun for your style of play.

And remember: players who choose airsoft sniper rifles should strongly consider bb gun pistols just in case the enemy pays them a close visit.
