What's With All the Airsoft Pistols, Rifles, and Shotguns?

Airsoft is not a new sport per se but is not as widely known as paintball. It involves players attempting to eliminate each other by shooting plastic BBs at each other.

There are airsoft pistols, rifles and shotguns. The main difference between airsoft and paintball is that the bbs do not break therefore you have to use the honor system. This works just fine if you're playing with the right kinds of people. Airsoft started in Japan because the japans people were not allowed to own real weapons so the created replicas while airsoft did officially start in Japan I know my dad was playing a similar version with single pump bb guns (think red rider) and think jackets. Now we all realize the dangers of shooting metal bb's at each other (you'll shoot your eye out )but boys will be boys and in the 1950s this was just good old fun.

Well Japan figured out a way to make it much safer, although you still need to wear eye protection at a minimum, by using plastic bb's. The sport gradually progresses from flimsy toy like guns to full body replicas capable of shoot in up to 500+ FPS.

These guns are all fired in one of three ways ether buy manually cocking a spring such as pulling back the slid on a airsoft pistol or racking a bolt on a rifle. This guns can shoot very fast and be very accurate especial when set up as a sniper rifle.

The second way airsoft guns are fired is by electric motor. These are commonly called AEGs or automatic electric guns. These still use a spring but the spring is compressed by an electric motor and a set of gears as opposed to manually cocking the spring. When the spring is fully compressed it is released to push a piston into chamber thus creating a high pressure blast of air to propel the bb. The main advantage to the AEG is its ability to fire on fully automatic which means you pull the trigger and bbs come out until you either run out of bb's or your let go of the trigger.

The third way AEG's are fired is by the use of compressed gas sch as C02 or green gas which is a propane mixture. CO2 is used in some guns but the majority of newer airsoft guns us green gas. These guns are usually airsoft pistols but they are starting to make more CQB rifles and sniper type rifles.

Overall airsoft is going to be just as big if not bigger than paintball if my predictions are correct. The lack of a mess and the inexpensive nature of the ammo being the major factor also for the price of a midgrade paintball gun you can get a really nice airsoft gun

Best Airsoft Guns For The Money

Automatic Electric Guns (AEGs) are best for those needing to have the most firepower as you can get. All AEGs have a selector switch for semi-full auto as needed. When selecting more expensive Airsoft like the AEGs such as JG, Cyma, A&K, AGM & Tokyo Marui you need to decide what style of airsoft games you plan on playing. Some like to play Close Quarters Battle (CQB) Airsoft guns like the JG G36C the JG MP5 the WELL Gas MP5 or the P90 are perfect for CQB. Other airsoft guns, with longer range, are the M14, M16 & the AK47. The Price for most JG, Cyma AEGs range from $94.99 to $249.99+. With most Chinese clones they come with all the accessories like battery and charger but expect to replace the battery with a name brand like Intellect. Best Side Arm

Most of the best side arms are power by green gas. One of my favorites is the Cyma g18C AEP Glock. This pistol is powered by a small 7.2v battery. Has good range thanks to its adjustable hop-up unit. If you need a more powerful airsoft gun, gas is the way to go. Some of the better airsoft guns powered by green gas are Western Arms, KWC and Tokyo Marui.

Most Airsoft Sniper Rifles are spring powered. These airsoft guns are some of the most powerful airsoft guns on the playing field. Ranging from 400-800 FPS, these lone range rifles are perfect for the airsoft gun loner. There are some AEGs that can be an in-between are the Cyma 14 rifle with it's long barrel and effective long range accuracy. There are also some green gas Sniper rifles to choose from as well.

Spring Airsoft Shotguns - Everything You Need to Know

Spring Airsoft shotguns shoot at high velocities with a large kill radii making them ideal for Airsoft skirmishes and tournaments, especially in close quarter combat situations. Most spring shotguns are pump action with a realistic shell ejection mechanism after each shot. They can fire anywhere between one to five BBs in a single shot, depending on which shotgun model is being used.

Spring shotguns are highly effective when there are multiple targets at short range as you can just pump and blast away. They are highly preferred in close quarter combat situations when the operator does not have enough time to carefully aim at the target. This ceases to be a problem with a spring shotgun in hand because it will spray a deadly shower of ammunition in the general direction of the target, making it very hard, if not impossible to miss.

Although the effective range of most spring shotguns is limited to less than 100 feet, their shooting speed can often match that of sniper rifles. Spring Airsoft shotguns usually hold less than ten shells at maximum capacity, but many models offer a clip magazine as an add-on that can hold up to several hundred rounds. This greatly increases the shotgun's effectiveness and maneuverability.

Many spring shotguns have the ability to slam fire, which is a firing process that occurs when the operator holds down the trigger and continuously pumps the gun. This will cause the gun to fire as soon as the pump reaches the forward position allowing it to shoot at a very fast rate. However this is not recommended as it puts tremendous amounts of stress on the gun and will quickly shorten its operating lifespan.

Overall spring Airsoft shotguns are a must have if you ever participate in an Airsoft skirmish within a tight building or other situation where the enemy could be right around the corner. Plus, they're just a lot of fun to shoot.
