An Overview of Airsoft

Airsoft is a modern sport by which players make use of replica firearms to shoot their fellow competitors with plastic BB pellets. This game is similar in appearance and mechanics of paintball. Nevertheless, both differ in weapon and ammunition. The history of Airsoft begins way back during the 1980s in Japan where the possession and use of guns were strictly punishable by law. As a means to train the country's military soldiers, the people found a way to manufacture firearms that are completely identical to genuine guns. This training became a hobby, and then soon turned into the sport that we now recognize as Airsoft. As the law that prohibits the ownership of guns also applies to most Asian countries, Japan started exporting their replica firearms, as well as the sport, to Taiwan, the Philippines, and Korea. Soon, the Western world started sending toy guns and pellets to Europe and America. It was during the 1990s when the first Airsoft playing ground was established in Japan. Currently, sports stores sell Springer kits, a set which allows the consumer to create his own Airsoft gun. Nowadays, Airsoft locations can be found in almost every major city worldwide.

One of the more popular firearms in this game is the M14 airsoft rifle. As you may know, the name of this rifle came from the real M14 battle firearm that was used exclusively by the best military soldiers and officers. It is most famous for its accuracy, even when fired at a long distance, as well as its manly, rock look. In terms of Airsoft, replicas of the M14 are still being manufactured, carefully maintaining every detail, specification, and ability of the genuine brand. A leading producer of the M14 and other airsoft snipers and rifles is China's UTG Sport, where UTG stands for "Under the Gun". This company is in partnership with the Leapers, Inc. industry. UTG guns are faithfully copied from their original counterparts, from intricate details down to the size and weight, as well as the plastic bullets' diameter. Contrary to popular belief, the UTG M14 is not built from real wood, but from various ABS stocks. Its interior barrel feature and moving bolt are created from pure metal and complimentary finishing color touches.

UTG airsoft rifles are operated by rechargeable batteries, which can be replenished by a special charger. No special type of battery is required to employ this kind of replica firearm. Airsoft snipers commonly use the UTG M14 because it is easily adjustable from manual to automatic firing. While the Leaper's firearm was made to mimic the shooting prowess of the real one, the replica is made to fire pellets at a slower pace, to lessen the risks of injury and dangerous hazards. Some game snipers enjoy this weapon because of its silent shooting sound and long-range accuracy. The UTG M14 is presently one the most sought after Airsoft rifle because of its overall quality performance and cool appearance. You can read more information on this sport at M14 Airsoft.

Airsoft Guns For Your Preference

The airsoft guns function with the facilities of gases such as propane or CO2 and green gas. The guns are usually made for the purpose of recreation and they are operated manually. The guns are to be used by the children of the age 16 and above. The guns are not harmful at all. The person when fires the guns the speed of the projectiles are very less and this is because they are light in mature. But still there are few guns which could be used only by players above the age of 18. There are various types of airsoft guns listed below:

Spring powered, these guns have elastic potential energy stored in the spring is used to compress the air to fire the pellet. The spring gun should be cocked before the shot. They are not powerful as gas or electric models. But some shotguns and sniper rifles are powerful and they can fire at 500 fps.

Automatic electric guns, these guns run on a rechargeable battery which drives the motor. They are the most common type among all the airsoft guns. They were developed in Japan. These guns are popularly known as AEGs (Automatic electric guns) and that is because of their automatic and semi automatic operation.

The hybrid guns are one of the latest in the present market. The guns belong to the AEG TYPE but they are much more real when compared to the other models. These guns would fire each round for a shell. They would also have the shell casing ejection when a pellet is shot from the gun. This fires the cap and gives out smoke and a real good sound close to the actual guns.

Low powered electric guns, they are popularly known as LPEGs just to distinguish from the AEGs. Don't confuse them with mini electrics. They can be found at comparable prices and that is the reason they are considered as better choices.

The medium powered electric guns are very versatile guns but they are the copy of the guns that are manufactured by the big names such as classic army originals and Tokyo Marui. These guns would be fully compatible and are also know as MPEG. The spring guns are manufactured by mini electrics company known as UHC. These guns are very famous and are mostly used for the practicing purpose and they are significantly different from the LPEG.

Automatic electric pistol is very common guns used in the very cold climatic conditions and they have a slightly better sidearm. These guns are also known as AEPs, it was introduced to the market in 2005. The guns work with the assistance of electric powered system and they have a fixed slide which makes them easy to operate. The classic airsoft guns are the old ones which work with the assistance of gas. The guns use the help of external gas such as CO2 and usual gas.

You can buy airsoft guns based on the power and range you want and you can check out some good deals over the net. Some times there are discounts are available. There are many sites which have good choices of airsoft guns with the latest models.

Airsoft Rifle Tips

An airsoft rifle is one example of airsoft guns that are becoming increasingly popular in North America. Although the equipment closely resembles a real rifle in most respects, it is not capable of doing the same type of damage as a real weapon that means it's safer to use for a wide variety of purposes. Whether you're interested in joining a team for a skirmish battle or you want to practice your shooting skills without running the risk of keeping real arms around your home, investing in airsoft rifles is one of the best ways to accomplish your goals. Below are some helpful facts that might help you get started in the right direction.

Making the right Choice

Airsoft firearms come in a wide variety of types and models. You'll find that most are very close replicas of real models. In fact, the similarities have been so close in some cases that trademark infringement has become an issue. However, you don't have to stick to just real-world weapons, such as the sniper rifle. You'll also find an airsoft gun or two that are designed to replicate fictional weapons, such as the firearms used in movies such as Aliens. With these weapons, you can simulate science fiction battles outside of your imagination or your video game console.

No matter what type of airsoft shooting you plan to be doing, the important thing is to avoid purchasing the cheapest models you can find. Many of these are poorly constructed models from China that simply aren't capable of being used for competitive airsofts shooting.

Instead, you want to find a reliable dealer who can help steer you to some of the better names in the business and who can answer the questions you have about the equipment before you spend the money. After all, most people who are interested in taking up the electric airsoft rifle hobby invest a couple of hundred dollars initially at first.

Understand Safety Precautions

When you're using airsoftrifles, you should always be careful and take safety precautions. For example, you should only use them when you away from anyone who could be inadvertently injured by the pellets. Although they definitely don't pack the punch of real bullets, they can be painful and can cause serious injury if you receive a hit to the head, face, or eyes. Finding a good, far away location for their use is a good idea whether you'll be shooting your airsoft rifle alone or as part of a team.

Make sure you also wear the proper face and eye protection when using the equipment. Like bullets, pellets can sometimes ricochet and cause damage to the shooter unexpectedly. If you're playing with other people, being hit by unfriendly fire is part of the game but you want to make sure to protect yourself from any type of serious injury. Otherwise, you could end up not only costing your team the match but you could find yourself out of commission for a while. Using your airsoft rifle safely just ensures you can keep enjoying it for a long time.

Airsoft Team Positions

Airsoft is a versatile game. It can be played in warehouses or outside in forests or fields. Many scenarios can be run through, and many different situations can be encountered. The airsoft player must be equipped to appropriately handle the situations he or she might face during a game. Part of being prepared for the correct situations is playing an appropriate role. The squad in which every member knows their place will be the far more effective one.

There are many specific roles on a team, but they can be separated into four main categories. Assault, CQB, sniper, and heavy gunner are the main team roles. The majority of airsoft players will start out as assault or CQB depending on their playing environment. However, for some the call of a sniper rifle or heavy machine gun will be too strong and they will inevitably land in these roles.

The assault gunner fills the standard infantry role. Most members of a squad will fall in this category. Assault gunners use assault rifles, such as the M16, M4, or AK-47. These rifles will usually be set up for a good medium between ROF and accuracy. A tight bore barrel is an excellent first upgrade for a player wishing to fill the assault role. Tactical gear should be substantial enough for extra mags and grenades, but not so bulky as to confine movement. Various grenade launchers are unnecessary but highly encouraged.

CQB is similar to assault gunner but with a greater emphasis placed on close quarters battles, hence the name. Those playing indoors in warehouses or on very small fields may want to consider the CQB role. Submachine guns are generally the weapon of choice for CQB specialists, with MP5 variants being very popular and widely available. There is a greater emphasis placed on ROF than accuracy or power, an appropriate first upgrade would be a more powerful battery. SWAT gear and tactical vests with cross draw holsters are very popular for CQB.

Sniper is probably the most popular support role as everyone loves living out their Call of Duty fantasies. There is a huge market for airsoft sniper rifles with electric, bolt-action or gas options abound. Many fields allow special rules for snipers, where sniper rifles can clock in sometimes as high as 700FPS. These fields generally include an engagement rule whereby snipers must switch to a sidearm if the opponent is within 100 feet. To qualify for the higher FPS sniper rifles generally have to be either single shot or modified in a way to make switching them to automatic fire impossible.

Heavy gunner is the role everybody secretly wants to play, but most of us can't afford. Playing heavy gunner properly is usually very expensive, as prices for the appropriate guns run high. Good M249 replicas are some of the more expensive replicas around. Heavy gunner can be done cheaply though, for example many companies offer affordable RPK models. Heavy gunners generally like to load on the equipment, as moving fast with an M249 is pretty impossible anyway. There are even airsoft miniguns available that require someone to follow the gunner around with a duffel bag full of ammo.

These are the four main roles to fill on an airsoft team. They each have their own guns and equipment associated with the role, and different mindsets when playing. Which one to choose is up to every individual player, but know that some guns, such as the M16, can be modified to fit into almost any role. Because airsoft guns are all essentially the same internally, how the gun is upgraded is the most important factor in determining effectiveness in varying situations.

Airsoft FPS - What Does it Mean

When buying an airlift gun, there are a few things you need to take into consideration. Weight, accuracy, color, design and FPS.

Now, if you are a computer gamer, FPS would normally mean First Person Shooter, but in the world of Airsoft, it is a figure that lets you know how powerful the gun or pistol is. FPS stands for "Feet Per Second" and lets you know how far and how fast the BB pellet will travel once fired. The higher the number, the faster and further the BB will travel.

Each weapon will have a rating and depending on what kind of gun you are buying, they will vary from less than 100 to over 300. The higher rated guns will most likely be sniper rifles or more professional guns.

The type of Airsoft gun you get will also have a bearing on what the FPS rating will be. Electric and spring loaded guns will have a lower FPS, but the compressed gas guns will have the highest. This is purely down to the mechanics of how the gun fires and is operated, nothing more than that.

So, when choosing your air soft gun, look for the FPS. If you want to shoot longer distances with more power, go for the higher rated weapons. If you are only using it at home, chose the ones with less power. It all depends on what you will be doing with the gun, where you will be using it and what you expect it to do. A low power gun will be perfect for hitting tin cans in your back yard.

Airsoft Wargames - An Alternative Sport

Have you ever thought that your sports hobbies like baseball, basketball, or football are too common nowadays? Why don't you try something new? If you're a type of person that seeks a pure adrenaline rush, mind blowing suspense action, strategy, and tactics, then Airsoft is a good fit for you!

What is Airsoft?

Airsoft is a game where you use Guns (not the real ones) but is an Airsoft Gun powered by compressed air, manual spring or bolt action, or electrically powered gearbox. They are replicas of the real fire arms like the M16 Armalite, AK47, and PSG 1 sniper, but even though they are just replicas, they feels like real! Especially those of "full metal" types where the body of the Gun is mainly made out of metal.

In the game, you play as a team in a particular battlefield, the goal of the game is to eliminate the opposing players by hitting them by your gun with plastic pellets (called BB's) usually at.20 grams measuring 6mm in diameter. Yes! It's plastic because metallic ones can cause severe injury when it hits a person.

How To Play:

Airsoft players can organize meetings and game in specialized battlefields adapted to feature bunkers, walls, providing realistic battle scenarios. When in combat in the field, it often involves common military tactics, applying appropriate strategy with the aid of useful battle gears. Back in 1970's, Airsoft started in Japan, they started to manufacture non- lethal gun replicas that fires calibers of plastic or rubber BB's. It was at first all spring powered but improved into gas- powered ones.

How you play the game usually employs an "Honor System" where the players rely on each other's honesty admitting if self is hit. The indication of being hit is when a player truly feels the impact of the velocity from the BB that is fired by another opposing player, in some cases there are friendly fire, meaning your team mate accidentally hits you, but it is not counted or considered a "Hit" to make you out of the game. The thrill of Airsoft is supported by Military simulations or "Mil-sims." It is actually a mind blowing situation where it depicts the real military fights including reduced amount of ammunition or BB's to re-enact the real Gun's low capacity magazines ranging from only 20 rounds to a maximum of 100 rounds. One example is the M4 and M16 series which only have 30 rounds. There is also a mission here and it can last up to days unlike the ordinary skirmishes that the only goal is to eliminate all opposing players lasting for less than an hour. Missions are supplied by explosives, pyrotechnics, Communication devices like radios, and BB's.

Here are tips for you to get started:

* First you have to decide which Type of Airsoft gun to use. These types are AEG's or Airsoft Electric Guns that are battery operated, Blowbacks - Gas powered, and Bolt action that are spring powered. Go to an Airsoft shop and you'll see lots of Airsoft guns to choose from and the store keeper is the right person to consult.

1.) Spring types: It needs to be cocked, it seems to be a hassle but this is very powerful, it is often seen in sniper rifles.

2.) Gas powered (Blowbacks): are also powerful but it is very costly for you need to buy Gases, and the durability of the Airsoft gun is at stake.

3.) Electric-powered gearbox: (Recommended) For battery operated, I prefer this one better than the others I mentioned because of practicality reasons. First is because of cheap maintenance in which you will no need to buy Green gas or CO2 bottles to power those blowbacks (Gas powers). Second is that it has a fully automatic mode in which spring types cannot do. I recommend examples of Guns for you to search for are the M4 series, AK47 series, Sniper rifles Bar10 or L96, and Steyr Aug. I've recommended this the best Airsoft guns for all purpose situations based on my experience being a Pro Airsoft player. In the usual markets, it is common to have different brands of these Airsoft guns. These are Jing Gong (JG), Tokyo Marui, Desert eagle, D-boys, AGM, A&K, and Cyma. I recommend using JG's because of its affordability or cheapness, fire power, stability, and durability. A usual JG quality lasts for about 100+ battles before you can see a slight damage in its function or externals, unlike other brands that only last for 20+ battles and you can see lots of quality downfalls.

* For ammunition you will use lots of.20g plastic BB's, for this is the standard weight used in competitions.

* When you finally decided for which gun to buy, you need battle gear for protection. As being hit by an Airsoft gun without protection can hurt you badly. The primary protection you need is for your eyes, you'll need goggles. Second is a face mask to cover your face, a pair of gloves, a helmet, battle outfit like camouflage, Tactical vest, Knee pads, elbow pads, and finally a pair of combat boots.

*Now that you're ready to rumble, you need to find a place where Airsoft battles are offered. In here you can join a team, don't forget to be friendly! for here in Airsoft, camaraderie, brotherhood and friendships are being made.

At your first battle it is common to feel nervousness, it's very normal and as you join more battles you will get used to it and finally enjoy it! I hope you find this article interesting and useful regarding the Airsoft hobby. Good luck and enjoy the thrill of the fight.

Airsoft Guns Shopping Guide

It's been said in many circles that paintball guns may have seen their time in the spotlights, and airsoft guns are the wave of the future. Still others think this theory is ridiculous, and lovers of paintball will continue the legacy that paintball has left. But one cannot overlook the impact that airsoft guns have made with gun enthusiasts all over the world.

It all began in Japan, where any type of genuine gun ownership is strictly prohibited. The laws of the country didn't stop the love of the weaponry, it merely created a space of airsoft guns to live and breath in the community. Instead of shooting bullets, BB's or plastic balls filled with paint, airsoft bullets (plastic balls) are used to hit the targets.

Unlike paintball guns, airsoft guns can be exact replicas of even the most covert firearms available. In fact, many militaries are using airsoft rifles, pistols and other firearms for training purposes, due to their authentic look and feel.

Now that you've got the basics down, you need to know what to look for while shopping for airsoft guns and their accompanying accessories.

First of all, just like with any purchase, you'll find the best selection and deals over the Internet. But just like any purchase made online, you need to be sure that the company you're dealing has been around for a while and has a solid reputation. One positive sign is a physical address listed on their website, not just a P.O. box and email contact information.

And while we're on the topic of the World Wide Web, be sure that the company you choose is secure and that the security of your payment and personal information is one of their primary focuses.

Now that we've covered safety, let's cross the path of the guns themselves. Not only should your dealer have a wide variety of airsoft assault and sniper rifles, pistols and support weapons (like M80s), but also ammunition, clothing, baggage, gear, parts, silencers, as well as any other accessory that you could possibly think of. You need to think a bit down the road, too, for even though one particular weapon might suit your fancy now, you might just fall for something a bit bigger down the road. It would be a bummer to build a solid reputation with one dealer now, only to have to switch down the road.

Finally, the last topic I'll brush upon is important to me personally when it comes to my airsoft gun. When I was a newbie, I didn't have the faintest idea how to operate my gun. In fact, I thought it was broken on several occasions. My dealer had (and still has) a troubleshooting section on their website to help those who aren't airsoft-savvy get through the basics and begin enjoying the sport of airsoft.

Chad Hodges recommends Trinity Airsoft if you?re shopping for airsoft guns.

Airsoft Guns Are Safe If Rules Are Followed

Airsoft is a sport that utilizes life-like guns with orange tips that shoot plastic BB's instead of real ammunition. Sure a sport like this can be dangerous, if you don't follow the proper guidelines and wear the appropriate equipment. What sport isn't?

Airsoft guns can propel BB's at 400+fps (feet per second) and at close range it can sting quite a bit. Formal protection is needed like proper clothing to cover open skin areas such as arms and legs. Helmets and eyewear are a must to protect the critical areas of the head. The eyewear should be certified as impact resistant and not just a pair of shades you buy at the local convenience store (those can shatter and do added damage).

The types of airsoft guns is a huge variety including airsoft shotguns, airsoft pistols, and airsoft rifles. Certain models work better in CGC (Close Quarter Combat) and other airsoft guns are great for distance and accuracy. There is a multitude of choices as with your opponents to make gameplay unique every time. Airsoft pistols, shotguns, and uzi's provide good CGC options while someone else may prefer distance weaponry like a sniper rifle. Some gamers will carry a combination of weapons on them for multiple scenarios.

Following these simple guidelines is just a start in having some of the most adrenaline-rushing fun you can ever have. The excitement and uncertainty of airsoft guns can raise your awareness to a whole other level. It can be exhausting and most rewarding experiences of gameplay ever. Now go out and have some fun.

Airsoft Vs Paintball - The Insiders Guide

If you are thinking about taking up a firearm sport, chances are you are considering airsoft versus paintball. Both sports can be a lot of fun and will get your adrenaline pumping, but there are some critical details that make the two very different experiences.

Paint ball guns (also known as paint ball markers) use expanding gas to propel paintballs at the target. A completely assembled paintball gun consists of a body, barrel, gas system and hopper (i.e. the loading mechanism) and is available in pump action, semi-automatic and fully-automatic. A paint ball gun feels and maneuvers like, well, a paint ball gun. Even blindfolded, no one would ever mistake a paint ball gun for the real thing. Likewise, most paintball games are less concerned with realism and usually take place in an obstacle course type environment. It will get your adrenaline pumping, but it's not really hyper authentic.

Airsoft guns on the other hand, are highly realistic replica firearms that fire small plastic airsoft pellets (6mm or 8mm). These firearms look and operate like the real deal, and for this reason airsoft guns are very popular among the competitive firearm gaming and military simulation set. In fact, airsoft guns are so realistic in design, weight and maneuverability, that they are also used for professional police and military training. Likewise, an accomplished airsoft player who has perfected their shot through diligent target practice, will also be able to carry that skill over to real firearms. Conversely, paintball guns are so different from the real thing that an accomplished paintballer will have to learn a completely different set of skills to become an accomplished marksman. It is this authenticity is what gives airsoft its edge and separates it from the paintball community. There are a wide variety of airsoft guns styles available, from pistols to shotguns, sniper rifles and even high power airsoft electric guns (AEG's) that shoot between 300 and 450 FPS (feet per second). You would select your firearm based on the type of airsoft skrimage you planned to participate in.

How Much Will It Cost?

Obviously it will depend on the specific gun you select, but in general, airsoft guns are less expensive than paintball markers. Very high end paintball guns can set you back as much as three grand, but you can get a good quality starter gun for around $300. Thanks to its growing popularity, airsoft manufacturers have been producing very affordable, high-quality guns in the past few years well below the $200 mark.

But Does it Hurt?

As far as pain is concerned, yes, being hit with either a paintball or an airsoft pellet can be painful. It will depend on a number of circumstantial variables including where you are hit, the distance of the shooter, whether the hit is against clothes or bare skin and the FPS of the firearm. In both sports, you should wear protective eye goggles and I personally recommend a face mask and some sort of wrap to protect your neck, because that's where it can really sting.

Airsoft Guns - Realistic Shooting Fun

A large recreational sports industry has blossomed around Airsoft guns. These guns primarily fire plastic pellets with a circumference of six to eight millimeters. Pellets discharge at a rate of ninety to six hundred feet per second. The guns themselves can have all the characteristics of a toy gun up to being indistinguishable from the real thing. Prices have a similar range. For as little as ten dollars and going up to as much as a few thousand dollars you can partake in this growing hobby. Guns can be used for recreational shooting, target practice, competitions, and even military and police training.

Airsoft guns use a variety of ways to propel the pellets. One way is through spring action. The spring is cocked before each firing. Because of this the gun is limited to a single shot. The upside to the spring version is there is no reliance on gas or electricity which makes it simpler to use and able to function in more extreme conditions. And because there are no batteries or gas propellants they are also more affordable. Spring guns are a great entry level option.

The gas powered guns can be semi-automatic or fully automatic. Powered by a number of different gases, propane, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen among them, gas guns can have the advantage of being more compact and lighter than their electric counterparts. The gas guns can be adversely affected by weather and temperature so care must be taken in properly operating and maintaining the weapon. There are hundreds of variations available in this category. They do have significant firepower in a small package and for that reason are highly desirable.

The automatic electric guns (AEG) are generally more expensive than spring and gas guns but in most cases deliver a superior level of performance. Powered by various types of batteries, battery operated guns run the gamut from pistols to rapid fire machine guns.

Beyond the way the guns are powered is the wide array of gun types available. Single shot pistols in every configuration are produced with a range of quality that includes everything from a pistol that resembles an inexpensive toy to a full blown exact replica of a state of the art military weapon. Pistols can be made of plastic or metal or a combination of both. They can be duplicates of revolvers or automatics with capabilities of firing up to one hundred rounds per second. Obviously, the greater the capabilities the greater the cost and complexity of the gun so make sure you are purchasing a piece that will fit your particular situation. Air guns also come in the form of shotguns with real pump action. There are air guns that are replicas of hunting rifles as well. One of the largest categories of air guns mimics the looks of military weaponry. Within this genre you can find gun replicas of sniper rifles as well as replicas of fully automatic rifles direct from the battlefields of today. There are also copies of bygone eras recapturing the flavor of the old west that people also enjoy.

Airsoft guns have such a large following that there are even collectors for them just like there are for real firearms. The level of craftsmanship and detail in the creation of these collectable air guns is remarkable with a high level of reality built in. Like any other collectable, or hobby, accessories for the enthusiast and collector alike abound. Scopes, magazines, cases and custom stocks to name a few can be purchased to improve performance or to customize your gun. Add to all of the options the low cost of ammunition Airsoft guns can be a great hobby for any budget large or small.

Airsoft Guns - How Do I Pick the Right One?

When it comes to the sport of airsoft, there are a few different types, or "classes" of guns available. What you need will depend greatly on what your role will be. For instance, do you want to be a sniper? Or will you be doing mostly QCB (close quarters battles)? Or do you want the best of BOTH worlds? Yes, there is a specific type of gun for ALL of these scenarious!

Another important thing to consider is the price factor. So before I even get started with this guide, I would like to say a little bit about the price of the airsoft gun(s) that you will be using, and what you can expect to get, based on the price that you pay.

Basically you can go cheap, and buy one of the many Chinese made airsoft guns. For the most part these will be made out of mostly ABS plastic, but they will pretty much perform IDENTICAL to the more expensive, "full metal" airsoft guns out there. The main difference will be that their durability is a bit less than the full metal guns. However, unless you do something fairly stupid (like dropping the gun from the roof of a building), then you are most likely not going to have to worry about breaking the gun.

For those of you that want to spend a bit more, you can obviously get a full metal airsoft rifle, but you will also be paying at least $50 more you would pay for an Abs plastic airsoft gun. As far as the components inside of the gun, they will be the same quality as what is inside of the plastic guns (assuming that they are true AEG airsoft guns). However, if you want to spend about $300 or more, you can get an airsoft gun that is made in Taiwan, rather than China. While these types of guns will still perform the same (velocity & accuracy wise), they actually use much higher quality internal components, which pretty much means they will out last the cheaper guns.

Ok, now that we have talked about price and quality, we can talk about specific types of airsoft guns. So with that said, if you want to be a sniper (which almost everyone does), then you will need a powerful "spring" operated airsoft sniper rifle. These guns are great because they shoot the furthest and have the most power. Also, they require no addition power source in order to fire; you simply cock them back for each shot.

For those of you that want to do close quarters battles, you will want the fully automatic electric "AEG" airsoft guns. These guns are better suited for close encounters than the airsoft sniper rifles, mainly because they are smaller, lighter, have a shorter barrel, and can be fired in fully automatic mode.

Lastly, another option is to buy a pistol. However, they are ONLY good for close quarters battles. With an AEG airsoft gun you can still get away with shooting at long distances, but with a pistol, you may as well forget shooting at anyone that is further than about 75 feet away.

And for those of you that want the best of both worlds, they make a popular airsoft gun modeled after the M14, which is basically a hybrid of an airsoft sniper rifle and an electric AEG gun. This puppy can be fired in both semi and full auto modes, can mount a scope, and is extremely accurate as well. This particular type of gun is well suited for close encounters AND distance shooting!

Airsoft Parts - A Need for Every Airsoft Enthusiast

In every airsoft game, there is a need for a powerful weapon. It may not be the only element in winning a game. Wit and agility may help but using a weapon that is outclassed in a game can be suicide. For this reason, airsoft parts are very important to all the enthusiasts of this game. Not only can airsoft parts improve the performance of their weapons, they can also change the appearance of their weapons. Airsoft is not just about wars and exchage of ammos, it is also an alert that involves the maintenance and customization of one's firearm.

Choosing the Right Parts

In order to answer this need, many manufacturers have put several types of airsoft parts in the market. Internal parts consist of air nozzles, bushings, cylinder heads, gears, hop up parts, inner barrels, mech boxes, motors, pistons, piston heads, selector plates, shims, spring guides, springs, tappet plates ane wiring. These are usually used for upgrading AEG airsoft guns. There are also external parts like butt plates, hand guards, folding stocks, grips and body kits that can improve the appearance of airsoft guns. There are also upgrade parts for sniper rifles and upgrade kits for beginners who will upgrading their weapons for the first time. Accessing them is quite easy. Choosing the right parts for a weapon can be a bit tricky. There are some parts that are not compatible with some weapons. Also, there are some airsoft parts that are not legal in some states. These are the things that one needs to get consider when picking some airsoft parts.

Airsoft Must-Haves

Before going for upgrades and dressing up one's firearm, certain items should be bought first. These are things that are necessary for one's safety during a game. A tactical vest can serve as an extra layer that can protect a player's body from hits. At 300 to 600 fps, the round pellets can cause some severe wounds. Having a face mask is also a must. It has the same purpose as that of a vest. It will act like a second skin that will protect your face from wounds and scarring. Of course, getting a pair of goggles is of utmost importance. These will protect a player's eyes from getting hit by BB's during a game.

Every player must also make sure that his gear is complete. Some games do last more than an afternoon and making sure that one's supplies will last during the battle can determine the result of the game. One must always have extra magazines, pellets and batteries. In buying batteries, one must always remember that the more mAh a battery has the more rounds it can shoot with a single charge. Bringing a charger along can also be useful. Finding a good charger that can input a precise charge into a battery and automatically discharge any left over charge will make it last longer. For long battles under the hot sun, having a canteen or a special hydration gear can be a great idea.

Airsoft Gun Pellets

Airsoft gun pellets come in different shapes, sizes and weights. Most airsoft pellets, also known as BBs (ball bearing) are normally 6mm spherical plastics. There are starch based biodegradable, metal coated, graphite coated, and steel pellets. Airsoft pellets typically weigh from 0.12 to 0.43 g.

6mm pellets, 0.12 g are used by gas and spring weapons but not for high-end AEGs. The same goes for 0.15 g. 0.20 g standard weights and used by AEGs. 0.23 g is heavy weight for AEGs and 0.25 g is the heaviest weight for standard AEGs, blowback and spring guns. 0.30 g is the standard and 0.36 g are heavier pellets for sniper rifles. 0.43 g is for highest levels of upgrades sniper rifles. As for 8mm pellets, 0.34 g is low weight, 0.45 g is standard weight and 0.60 g is the heaviest weight for 8mm sniper rifles.

For automatic electric guns (AEGs), the velocity limits range between 300-400 FPS (feet per second). For single shot guns, it is 400 to 500 FPS. The tension of the main spring determines the pellet velocity of automatic electric guns (AEGs), so there tends to be a stratification of values. Low-end spring pistols can shoot 0.2 g BBs at velocities from 100 FPS. The range for high-end airsoft guns can reach 550 FPS. Anything beyond this would need a major upgrade of internal components. This internal modification can also increase the ROF (rate of fire) drastically.

Airsoft pellets may not damage the skin but are extremely dangerous to the eyes, so goggles or other protective gear must be worn at all times while playing airsoft sports.

Ghillie Suits

Next time you are observing nature, you will notice that nothing around you has perfectly straight lines. is either curved, crooked, bent or jagged. If you would see a hunter with a rifle around it, they stand out. That is, without the correct ghillie suits to offset this unnaturalness.

Ghillie is an old Scottish term for a game warden. The were given the task protecting the wildlife on their Lord's lands from poachers. While Hunters of today easily use a hunting ghillie suit, the ghillies of the old days had a different strategy of catching prey. The ghillies would stalk the game by hiding in the undergrowth and lying motionless. They would wait for unsuspecting game to walk by and then jump our and tackle it with their hands. They would now haul their prize back to the keep so the Lord could have his sport in the castle courtyard in a mock hunt.

Of course, Most are familiar with the standard camouflage articles. A set of jacket and pants with camouflage patterns that replicate nature in an attempt to offset the unnatural form of the hunter and their gear. Most times this type of camouflage does the job. But if you need to go extreme and blend into your surroundings, only ghillie suits will accomplish this for you.

They are used professionally by snipers. Pictures of snipers looking half vegetation and half man have been seen in the news. It's because nothing in nature has straight lines, so equipment like guns and antennas do betray hidden positions. To fix this, snipers also make little ghillie suits for their rifles. The most unnatural occurance in nature is the human form but the sniper knows that with the proper sniper ghillie suits,he can be almost undetectable.

The advantage a ghillie suit will give you over your target will continue to impress first time users. Airsoft and paintball players continue to be impressed with the effectiveness of the paintball ghillie suit. A few of these suits are used by the military and experiences of being stepped on and walked over during scenario games are not uncommon. Prior to buying your own ghillie suits, analyze the vegetation you will be using the ghillie suit in, so you can properly choose the suit with the proper pattern. You will generally have 4 patterns to choose from and must carefully choose the pattern that most perfectly matches the environment you will be using it in.

Cost Saving Tips For Buying Airsoft Gear

1. If your going to buy Airsoft gear you have to take baby steps, plan where you will be playing (close quarters, or big fields). If you are playing in an open field you should probably be looking at rifles, but if you like closer ranges then that, well close quarters is your game so look at pistols all the way to sub-machine guns.

2. Another question, do you like to sit back and "pick people off" as they run by or be "in" the action shooting a lot and having the chance to get shot at. If your answer was "yeah i like sitting back and watching everything happen". Then your a sniper person

Cheaper Prices

3. If your going to buy Airsoft ammo then buy the BIG bag its more for your money

4. If you want to buy extra gear like tactical vests, holsters, grenades, helmets, etc. look at where your playing again, If your sniping then you wouldn't really need as much protection as the guys/girls in the field getting shot up

5. always wear a helmet, or goggles.

Story Time

When I was 16 Years Of Age i had gotten shot in the eye, i always said "oh i cant get shot in the eye what are the chances of that?". But now I am 20 in July and have 50% vision out of my left eye i can barley drive, I'm telling you all this now so it doesn't happen to you in the future.

It just isn't a sport, its a lifestyle

Looking to Buy Airsoft Guns that are hard hitting, and will help you win the airsoft war against your friends, then I would suggest checking out Metal Airsoft Guns because they are made better and shoot harder than the plastic guns.

Spring Airsoft Guns

Spring powered airsoft guns differ from the other gas powered and electric powered airsoft guns because they are a single shot or spring cocked devices much like a real shotgun or bolt action rifle. The user has to cock the spring by pulling back the slide or bolt before firing each shot. Though they may not be very suitable for close combat competitions, they are widely used for "sniper" and "marksman" functions.

The spring airsoft gun is ideal for beginners because it's cheap, durable and widely available, and because it is easy to use, almost every airsoft gun enthusiast has started out with a Spring airsoft gun.

The MP5 SD3 is the most popular spring rifle, well known for its CQB (Close Quarters Battle) applications and mainly used by tactical groups. It features a metal retractable stock and mock silencer, and the scale magazine can hold 20 rounds. The Hop-Up model has increased range and accuracy for skirmishing. The model is mainly constructed of ABS plastic, with some internal metal components. It weighs 2.89 Pounds and shoots several hundred feet at a rate of 270 feet per second.

As for spring handguns, the M9 seems to be the most widely used and has a 22 Round Magazine, opening ejection port, functional trigger & amp and hammer. The model is mainly constructed of ABS plastic like the MP5 SD3, with some internal metal components. Optional all metal mock screws on silencers are available. The M9 weighs 1.25 lbs -- has a muzzle velocity of 275 FPS, and is effective up to 90 Feet. The model comes in single, two-tone and silver color.

Finding Airsoft For the First Time

It is in no way, an understatement to suggest that there are a lot of us out there that love to "play" war. Whether it is thrill of the hunt, or the excitement of a kill. A lot of us have had this infatuation since our youth that started with a toy pistol and a group of friends.

Now, I have found that level of sophistication and technology that I employ has grown as I have grown. Starting with just my hand shaped into a gun, to the cap gun and then onto my paint ball gun. So, as a long time fan of paintball, I must admit I had to chuckle a bit when a good friend of mine first pulled out a new Airsoft gun. But, with that being said, from the first time I had that M15A4 Carbine in my hands, I was hooked. It really proved to be more then I would have thought, and completely hooked me into Airsoft. To hold an accurate looking rifle, that is constructed of metal, was amazing.

Now, the cross over from paint ball to Airsoft was an easy one. To put it simply, it is the game, only with better weapons. You still wear protective equipment from your face and eyes. Another great thing about Airsoft is the fact that you will no longer be spending 100's of dollars on paintballs. Airsoft BB's are much cheaper and they do also make a bio-degradable version. Not to mention, Airsoft has a very large selection of pistol and rifles, so it would be very unlikely to find the right fit. Airsoft also makes their weapons in three different catogeries including electric or AEG, Gas and spring.

If you enjoy paintball, you will simply love Airsoft.

Hybrid Airsoft Guns

Hybrid airsoft guns originally debuted in the middle of 2006, although they have not become very popular since. This new type of airsoft gun functions differently from gas, electric, and spring airsoft guns (although it is powered electrically). In fact, it works almost exactly like a real gun. BBs are placed in the front of real-like shells, and red caps placed in the back. The shells are inserted into the magazine, and the magazine can be loaded regularly. After pulling the trigger, the firing pin in the gun hits the red cap on the back of the shell, which explodes and creates a high pressure inside the casing. This pressure pushes the BB out through the barrel at a velocity which is unachievable by the other three types of airsoft guns.

Real guns operate very similarly, in that the firing pin strikes the primer, creates a spark, and ignites the gunpowder. The burning of the gunpowder creates gas and pressure inside the shell, which pushes the bullet out. The differences between the real gun way and the airsoft gun way is that only a tiny amount of gunpowder is used in the red caps for airsoft (while a lot is used in real shells), and the pressure created in an actual gun is much higher than in an airsoft gun (also, there is the key difference of the projectile being metal instead of plastic).

With a hybrid gun, you obviously need to be much more conservative with your shooting, or if you feel the need to fire a great deal, you must take a lot of time to prepare more rounds. That is the clear negative of hybrid guns; the need to prepare each round (or you could probably buy rounds pre-assembled, but they will of course be more expensive than regular BBs). However, there are positives. For one, many players will be attracted because of the stunning realism, as now not only does the gun look real, but so does the ammunition. As stated, because of the nature of the ammo, the velocity achieved is very high. This is great for snipers, who now can shoot from much further back (higher speed = more distance). In fact, hybrid guns would be good for many single shot airsoft models, although using one in a semi-automatic or fully automatic model would result in paying a lot of money or using a lot of time for the ammunition.

With the introduction of hybrid guns, one wonders how realistic airsoft guns can get. Some airsoft guns look completely real (save for the orange tip), and now even the ammo and some internal mechanisms are functioning realistically. Due to the military's growing use of airsoft guns, researchers are developing airsoft advancements faster. It seems the hybrid airsoft gun is just a glimpse of what new glories airsoft holds for us.

Choosing A Paintball Sniper Marker

Selecting a new paintball sniper marker can be frustrating for the paintball player. This article is designed to help new players quickly get up to date.

What makes a sniper marker distinctive? How can they vary from other types of paintball firearms? Although increasingly more specifically rifles are on the market now, most paint-ball markers are simply your standard paintball gun with or perhaps a "sniper kit" or "package" simply because they are called this.

An inexpensive paint-ball sniper marker are perfect for the beginner. A variety of paintball guns for example blow back, hybrid blow back, electronic, pump, semi-auto, and full-auto are actually available within the market. Depending upon the different types of paintball guns, the costs of paintball guns vary. The cost of a cheap paintball gun generally ranges from $20 to $150. Cheap paintball sniper markers are usually cost effective, dependable, lightweight, and simple to keep.

Action, air supply, performance, construction, and maintenance are a few of the standards that should be considered whilst purchasing an inexpensive paintball gun or marker. Usually, the price of paintball guns depend upon the pressure system employed in the product, and low cost sniper markers usually include carbon dioxide pressure system. low cost paint-ball rifles are preferred by beginners. It's usually advisable to purchase cheap paintball sniper rifles manufactured by leading businesses, as they provide some type of warranty. Moreover, cheap paintball sniper rifles offered by top businesses have good rate of fire, accuracy, and variety.

Just think of yourself behind the barrel of that gun. Your laying down within the brush with your camouflage covering throughout the body, face painted to blend to the grass, mask covered in grass, head covered up with leaves, your eyes peeled for just about any movement in the bush. You are feeling like a snake laying there just waiting for the prey to create a move. It's so quiet you are able to hear your heart beat. Not really a sound comes from yourself but, you hear something over 300 feet away behind a tree which means you examine your scope of the rifle there it is! Your buddies "rear end" protruding from behind a tree since the tree isn't wide enough to cover him. You put the crosshairs on that target and POW! Because he jumps out from behind the tree to surrender, he never knew what hit him. And that he still doesn't know where you are. Reach that scenario, then you can realize the fun of a paintball sniper rifle! There is a wide variety of sniper rifles available today. They duplicate real war guns. Most come designed with long barrels for extended range shooting accuracy. Even somewhat of the rifled barrel to allow the paintball to spin. That creates more distance and accuracy. You may also make a regular marker into a sniper rifle with the addition of another barrel.

Low cost paint-ball markers are also obtainable in kits or packages, that are including air tank, hopper, and mask. Packages are considered a great deal, because they might help to save money and time. Reviews on paintball guns help someone to evaluate and compare the costs of different kinds of cheap paintball sniper rifles available within the marketplace. Brass Eagle, Kingman Spyder, Proteam Maxis, and Tippman are 1 of the reliable names inside the cheap paintball gun market. Most of the cheap paint-ball gun manufactures display their item on-line along with its functions. You'll discover many from the same features and prices in airsoft sniper rifles.

Some Low cost paintball sniper guns have particular disadvantages. Some sniper rifles are mostly based of co2 pressure system, it results in velocity fluctuations, thereby affecting shooting accuracy and range. Occasionally, particular low cost paintball sniper rifles will be made of low cost materials. Besides, cheap paintball sniper rifles usually include limited accessories, which make them inappropriate for veterans or professionals.

Electric-Powered Airsoft Guns Have Been Modified

Some manufacturers, as well as skilled collectors and hobbyists, have made notable modifications to the electric-powered airsoft guns. Reinforced plastics and metal bodies, for example, make the AEGs feel and look more like a real firearm. These modifications are the most common, and the most popular, type of changes. Some of the larger manufacturers of AEGs, such as Tokyo Marui and Classic Army have been able to produce replica firearms that are so similar to the real gun that it is very difficult to tell the difference by visual inspection. Tokyo Marui chooses to stay with the strong, ABS plastic for their AEGs, whereas the latest Classic Army modifications feature a full metal bodied wean with a much stronger furnishing.

The majority of the AEGs in production today are intended to look and feel as close to a real gun as possible.

There are two common types of AEGs which are used by airsoft gun users and players. The AR-15 series, which includes the M4 carbine and the M16 rifle, is at times referred to as a Colt or Armalite series. The other series, the Heckler and Koch MP5, has many different customizations, modifications, and repair parts readily available. Of equal popularity is the airsoft guns called the Springer M14, the Heckler and Koch G36, the Kalashnikov, and the AK.

In virtually any of the electric-powered airsoft guns, the user can choose to make certain modifications to enhance performance, power, and range. Depending on the purpose and regular use of the weapon, these modifications may or may not continue to remain effective at the same level over time.

Replica Guns and Replica Firearms

One of the nicest parts of getting involved with airsoft guns is that you create an entire arsenal of some of the most powerful weapons available at a fraction of what they would normally cost and without having to worry about the potential dangers involved with real firearms. That's because most of these weapons are actually replica guns which are designed to mimic and imitate real weapons down to the smallest details. In fact, hybrid guns are an electric version that even provides the smoke and smell associated with shooting a real gun. Below is some important information you might want to consider when considering the purchase of a replica gun.

Available Models

Replica weapons today include a wider range of options than what you might expect. If you're looking for an AK-47 or an M16 assault rifle, for example, you'll be able to find an airsoft gun that will recreate that gun for you and give you the feeling of handling that real powerful weapon. However, you don't run the risk of actually causing any damage or serious injury to anyone as a result of its use. There are also a large number of pistols and replica rifles that are available as well. In fact, if you've always wanted to get a feeling for being a sniper, you can find a replicas gun to help you achieve that dream without actually feeling like an assassin.

While most of the models are replica firearms meant to recreate the experience of shooting real guns, there are also some that mimic fictional weapons, such as those used in science fiction films.

Potential Danger of Replicas Guns

One potential problem you could face is having your pistol replica, replica rifle, replica guns mistaken for a real weapon. Because some of these models are so realistic, law enforcement agents can sometimes even not distinguish the two, especially at a distance. That means your neighbors and others around you may not be able to tell the difference either. In some countries, these guns are required to be marked with colored caps so they can easily be distinguished from real models. However, this is not the case in the United States.

One way to prevent confusion is not to use them in neighbors but only in locations where replica revolvers can be used safely, such as in the woods or on an empty farm. You should avoid showing off the weapons in public to prevent problems as well. Responsible use is the best prevention against the types of issues that could arise from this type of confusion.

Other Important Details

Replica guns are one of the most interesting options available for airsoft gun enthusiasts. You can find nearly any type of weapon you've always wanted, and you can have as many as you want. With replica guns, you can recreate the battles of the past, the future, or the present with real military-based weaponry. No matter what you hope to accomplish you'll find the right airsoft products for your needs.

ATN Scopes - Tips For Buying Right The First Time

ATN stands for American Technologies Network and if you're in the market for a great night vision scope then ATN can provide you with exactly what you need. Night vision scopes can be a touchy subject legally in some areas so always make sure you check local regulations in relation to hunting at night or even the ownership and use of a night vision scope. All things being equal and legal the night vision scopes produced by ATN can really give you a strong advantage in the field.

ATN scopes can be used by anyone but are generally used and intended for use by law enforcement agencies, military snipers and anyone involved in predatory hunting. ATN have, over the years, built up an excellent reputation for incredible accuracy and an equally impressive construction and build quality.

If you do decide to check out ATN scopes then you have several choices with this brand. From titanium mounting system to Image Intensifier tubes to rails which allow the addition of light systems or even backup iron sights ATN are a truly versatile product in their market.

One of the ATN scopes that all shooters will want to have a look at is the Aries MK330 Warrior model. This is a very affordable scope known for its high quality. Features on this sight include an extremely fast front lens system that provides excellence in brightness as well as a reticle brightness adjustment which operates at just the touch of a button. An Infared Illuminator is also provided which is completely detachable and extremely powerful. With this extra addition, you gain the capability of seeing your target up to 150 yards away in complete darkness. With a fantastic ergonomic design, this scope is extremely easy to use in total darkness.

Another option offered by ATN scopes is the Aries 390 Paladin. This is one of the best scopes on the market, typically outperforming most of the competition - even the more expensive competitor models. Like other scopes produced by ATN, the Aries 390 Paladin features an ergonomic design for ease of use in the dark. Optical resolution was increased on this model to allow more light to travel through the lens all the way to the tube; giving you a sharper and brighter image each and every time. A precise aiming system was also added to this model along with the famous detachable Infrared Illuminator featuring dedicated elevation and windage adjustment.

Last but not least is the Aries MK258 in the ATN scope range. This scope is often referred to as the Smart Scope - and with very good reason. Not only is it quite affordable but it also includes several features that are extremely smart such as an upgraded 90mm lens and 4x magnification. Digital technology adds even more power and higher light amplification. A truly impressive scope with a range of features that normally demand a higher ticket price.

So if you're looking for a great range of night vision scopes at truly affordable prices you could do much worse than investing in an ATN scope.

Choosing the Right Airsoft Guns

You may need to use different airsoft guns depending on your playing style. Before you make the purchase, make sure you visualize how you will be playing the game to choose the right gears for you. To help you get started right away, follow these next couple of tips you can use to determine which airsoft guns are perfect for you.

For close-quarter combats, submachine guns and shotguns are the best. Depending on your budget and preference, you can simply opt for the cheaper spring shotguns or more expensive submachine AEGs. Of course, AEGs have their own advantages -- including being able to use automatic firing more for rapid actions -- yet shotguns can also be great if you are dealing with smaller playing field.

You can also go for machine AEGs as well. The difference between submachine airsoft guns and machine airsoft guns lies in size and portability. If you are playing on larger field with more moving spaces, you can use machine AEGs, also known as rifles, to get the extra firing range you need. For tighter playing field, submachine AEGs are better and more portable.

If you want, you can also opt to get sniper rifles. There are spring sniper rifles as well as gas powered sniper rifles available, so you can simply pick one suitable for your budget. If you want, you can also pair the rifle with handguns should you need to close in on the enemy. Playing as sniper during skirmishes can be quite exciting, although some extra patience is required.

Different players use handguns differently. I personally advise you to have at least a piece of handgun with you whenever you go into skirmishes. Go with gas blowback airsoft handguns or electrical model for better shooting performance, and keep it in your side holster whenever you play. In case your rifle ran out of bullets or malfunction, you can always use the handgun to protect yourself and continue the battle.

Now that you know how to choose airsoft guns properly, it is time to pick up the right gear and start playing immediately. Visit some of the available internet stockist to get yours right away.

Buying My First Airsoft Gun - Tips and Advice For Buying a Good Airsoft Gun For the First Time

So you just played your first game of airsoft using a cheap spring based rifle bought from Wal-Mart or were using a friend's A.E.G. (Automatic Electric Gun) on the field and now you want to trade up. So you get to the store and then realize that you have no idea what you want to buy! Rest assured dear reader because if there is a will, there is a way. The first thing you need to ask yourself before dropping money on a new weapon is "How do I want to play". Exactly what do you want to do once you are in the game?

Do you want to play on the field with an assault rifle or in a warehouse with an SMG (Sub-Machine Gun)? Are you a lone wolf and like the idea of waiting in the grass with your sniper picking off enemies from the distance? Perhaps you want to set up shop with a light machine gun and lay down covering fire for your squad mates. There is a wide arrange of weapons and armaments that can be tailored to your personal preferences. Be practical though; you most likely will not need a short-barreled sub-machine gun in a wide open forest. Conversely you won't get much use out of a sniper rifle in a cramped warehouse.

Now the second thing you need to figure out is your budget. If you are just getting into the sport the best recommendation is an electric M4. This gun is made by nearly every major airsoft manufacturing company out there and has a vast selection of spare parts, accessories, and magazines available for it. Plus it is the easiest gun to upgrade both externally and internally. This way even if the gun was sub-par pre purchase you can always upgrade it to make shoot up there with the best of them. It makes it a perfect choice for someone just starting out.

This doesn't mean however you are limited to just that one gun. Most popular models and gun types are made with varying degrees of quality. Meaning if you wish to get an M249 light-machine gun right off the bat you will be able to find something to fit your needs. Just remember to do your own research on the gun and the manufacturing company before making your first purchase. It can be a bit of a hassle to look all the information up before buying. Doing this will make your first airsoft gun purchase a happy and worthwhile investment.

Be a Better Airsoft Player

In past posts I have discussed strategies for improving your team's effectiveness as a whole. Since we have all heard the old adage that a team is only as strong as its weakest player, I thought it would be valuable to address ways in which you can improve as an independent player. Strong players do, after all, enhance the team.

Know your weapon and gear. Do some basic training, including some ground work, such as running and crawling. Get familiar with the weight and maneuvering limitations of your gear. Learn what works well with your equipment dimensions.

Improve Your Accuracy. Some people think the quickest way to become a better player is to upgrade your weapon. Upgrades are awesome, don't get me wrong, but they are not a quick fix for a bad shot. The truth is if you want to improve your form and accuracy, you have to practice. The good news is... practicing is really fun. Here are a few things to keep in mind when working on your accuracy:

Always aim for a small, specific area on the target - not the target as a whole. Keep your eye on that small area rather than glancing around.
Grip high on the gun so that your middle finger is high on the trigger guard. A higher grip will give you more control regardless of the weapon. It will improve your aim and ease recoil.
Use your fingerprint area to slowly squeeze down on the trigger. This will limit jerking and allow for more control over the gun. Try to make this a fluid movement; this is especially important if you are using a sniper rifle or pistol.
The farther away you are, the higher you will have to aim to hit your target. Practice different ranges and learn what works best for you and your weapon(s).
Be sure to practice shooting while moving around.
Different guns will have a different feel, be they gas, spring or electric airsoft guns. The more you use it, the more instinctual your weapon will be to you.

Know the Terminology. Be sure to research the different war terms that you may encounter on the field. If you are told an enemy fighter is at your 6 o'clock, it's better to instinctively know what that means than to mentally calculate it on the field. There are a number of airsoft glossaries out there worth reviewing. You don't need to know every term, but a solid understanding will help you.

Know the strategies. Most wargames are broken up into teams that are either offense-oriented or defense-oriented. Defense-oriented teams tend to be grounded in a specific area, while offense-oriented teams are on active attack, trying to gain ground. A good strategy if you are on the defense is to find a position that provides both cover and access to enemy targets. The more hidden you are, the better. If the enemy cannot figure out where the shots are coming from, you have the chance to do more damage. If you are on the offense, your main two objectives are determining where harmful fire is coming from, and removing the origin of that fire, thus allowing you to gain ground. It is surprisingly difficult to find a tactically hidden defensive player. Offensive players should try to engage the enemy with minimal movement or noise. Surprise is really the best weapon on the field.

Be fit. You will need to be able to run, crawl, and dive... all with heavy gear. The more physically fit you are, the better you will be on the field.

Be safe and have fun. Wear the right protective gear, use good judgment, and the more you play, the better you will be.

Hybrid and Low Powered Electric Airsoft Guns

Hybrid airsoft guns, the newest type guns available on the market today, began their debut in the summer of 2006. The hybrid versions are essentially standard AEGs which have been enhanced with a little extra power and performance capabilities. The magazine inside the hybrid guns are loaded with specialized shell casings, each of which contains one single plastic pellet. Shell casings will be often be designated with a small red end cap, which looks somewhat similar to those on a child's cap gun. The hybrid airsoft guns feature a full blowback system which is powered by electricity. The operation system in these guns is based on the "round-per-shell" mechanism, so that a shell casing is expelled with each pellet fired, while the end cap provides a more realistic sounding and smoking shot effect.

Electric, Low-Powered Airsoft Guns

The low-powered airsoft guns are designated as such in order to differentiate them from the more expensive, original, more powerful variety of AEGs. Although the overall electrical and mechanical operation and design are similar between the low-powered and the higher powered versions, the velocities and construction of the low-powered varieties cause them to function in a slightly different manner. Low-powered airsoft guns are not to be confused with the Mini Electrics, which fire exclusively in a fully automatic method. Low-powered electric guns are often near-exact replicas of a traditional firearm, whereas the Mini Electrics are miniaturized and more obvious when it comes to their replica status. Mini Electrics are also made of a clear or a black plastic, whereas low-powered varieties can be made of these and other materials.

Choosing a Telescopic Rifle Scope or Laser or Red Dot Sight for Airsoft or Paintball

A scope or sight makes playing airsoft even more fun in a number of ways. If you don't have one you should get one!

While not as essential as say for air rifle shooting where you often need to hit a 5p size target at 30 metres an airsoft scope can help in other ways

Telescopic scopes improve longer distance aimed shot accuracy - Very handy for sniping.
Brilliant for spotting enemy in cover (ambushes!) and - or at ranges way beyond rifle range.
Red dot and laser sights improve hit rates in fast reflex CQB and mad skirmishes.
And of course they make any airsoft rifle look very cool and are loads of fun to use (which has got to count for quite a bit I reckon)

There are 3 types to consider -

1 - Telescopic scopes As the name suggests you get magnified vision. These are ideal for snipers and general rifle combat.

Come in a wide range of sizes, for example -

3-9x40 is the most popular general purpose type but what does that mean?

3-9 - Means the magnification. In this example can be dialed between 3 and 9x (and all the numbers in between)
Very handy for multiple situations and ranges.
40 = lens size in millimeters. 40mm is a very good size. Good light capture and a wide field of view but not overly bulky.
By contrast a 4x32 would mean 4 x magnification only through a 32mm lens.

Cross hairs - There are many different types but for airsoft use you don't need to worry about this to much except as a fashion thing!

The 30-30 type is pretty standard and is fine (similar to a traditional plain X hair)
You'll see others with Mil Dot which is the military standard cross hair.
Just the job you may think but they are more expensive and the mil dot stuff is basically a range finding and distance estimation aid that's of little use until distances over a couple of hundred meters are reached. A nice to have but you don't need it.

Types 2 and 3 Red dot and Laser sights
These are not magnified - what you see is the real size as it is.
Perfect for FIBUA, CQB and close quarter stuff where you need reflex from the hip or fast semi aimed eye to sight shots (a la SWAT style)
Great for pistols as well.

2 - Red dot sight
Projects a red (or green) dot onto the inside of the lens.
Only you can see this dot - hopefully on your target.
You fire and you hit.
Very handy for reflex combat and pistols.
The bigger the lens the better. 20mm is common and OK. 40mm more pricey but much better. (Tasco do some great ones)

3 - Laser sights
Similar principle to the red dot except the dot is "visibly visible"" on the target - anyone can see it.
Brilliant for scaring the hell out of the enemy, but it can give you away too so use with care!
Best in low light, but any decent laser will still give you visible dot even in standard daylight, though effective range will be much less.
Various types, some can go on top of a telescopic sight.
Others can be mounted slung under the barrel or pistol grip.

Makes include, the SMK LS1, LS2 and LS3 models, Hawke Tactical, Beamshot and Cybergun Universal. All are excellent with SMK being at the budget end (I sell loads of them on ebay)

Mounts and base rails - VERY IMPORTANT! An important area and one that causes a lot of confusion on ebay! - To fit a scope or sight to a rifle of pistol there must be somewhere to clamp it onto. Makes sense yes? (not to some people it doesn't!)

Look for dovetail type grooves running along the top of the rifle body - This is the scope or sight rail or base.

To this rail or base you attach the scope or sight by way of scope mounts

But just to make it extra fun there are different type of mounts as rails - bases differ in width!

But OK, assuming you have a base rail of some sort. Next - Measure the distance between the grooves of the base.

If it's no more than 13mm wide (3/8 inch) then you need what are called standard mounts
If it's 20mm wide (5/8 inch) then you have what is called a Weaver base and need weaver mounts (inventors name)

Most airsoft models need weavers. Examples that spring to mind are the TM M4, SR16, SG550-51-52 series, MP5.
Some sniper types have Standard.
It's not a problem if you measure up first and check that the sight or scope you are getting has the right type
Take extra care with models that have fitted mounts. These cannot be changed so if you get the wrong type they'll have to be sent back and swapped for a totally different model.
If in doubt read the product description carefully or email the seller to ask for clarification and include your gun make, model and link to website so the seller can check it out fast.

Nickwake (my) ebay shop fast guide to airsoft suitable scopes and sights

Telescopics -

4x20 - Only come with fitted Standard mounts. Do not buy or bid for if you have a weaver base.
4x32, 3-9x32, 4x40, 3-9x40, 4-12x42 and 8x56

All come without mounts so you choose mount type.
All models can all have the SMK LS2 scope mounted laser sights added to give you telescopic AND relex shooting.

Red dots -
Type 1 - "Open eye" with fitted standard mounts
Type 2 - Tasco BKR - with fitted weaver mounts (a very cool sight this one)

Lasers -
Type 1 - LS2 Scope mounted. A long term best seller. Available on own or as part of a combo set or add on if you win an auction.
Type 2 - Cybergun Laser and Torch - with various adaptors, can be barrel slung. Also come with a tactical torch. Very cool kit.

So, want to get one? I hope you know what you need to know now and to see you online soon! Or, for more scope guide stuff see my website zero rifle scopes
